Rafael Zaldivar – Afro-Cuban Revival
March 23 – 8h00 pm
This new project by pianist, composer, and JUNO nominated Rafael Zaldivar was born from his desire to evoke the Cuban folklore and its incredible rhythms. His original repertoire includes a variety of Afro-Cuban rhythms such as: afro, son montuno, and obatalá. Here, the pianist presents an artistic product full of emotion and energy through which he shares his musical legacy. Providing the musical direction, Zaldivar is surrounded by excellent Rémi-Jean LeBlanc on the electric bass and Michel Medrano on the drums. The Afro-Cuban Revival Project offers unique chants, rhythms, and improvisations, celebrating the African ancestors’ heritage and pushing the limits of contemporary jazz.
