Jazz Services commissioned a work by composer Jean-Nicolas Trottier for the creation of Quebec’s first double bass orchestra, uniting the best of this province’s bassists:
Normand Guilbeault, Guy Boisvert, Fredéric Alarie, Fraser Hollins, Dave Watts and Adrian Vedady.
Opening Act: Jérôme Beaulieu Trio
Winner of the 2011 New Talent Contest
Drawing on their collective influences, from modern jazz (Brad Mehldau, E.S.T., Tord Gustavsen, Avishai Cohen, etc.) to pop-rock (Coldplay, Elbow, etc.), with forays into hip-hop, folk and world music, the group attempts to approach jazz with the widest lens possible. Winners of Jazz en Rafale’s 2011 New Talent Contest, this group has the wind in its sails, and will take advantage of the occasion to present their first album on Effendi Records.
This is but the beginning! They have just won the emerging artist award at the Festi Jazz International de Rimouski.
Musicians: Jérôme Beaulieu (piano), Philippe Leduc (contrebasse), William Coté (batterie)
